Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify cultural competence, professional self-concept and clinical competency and examine their relationship in nursing students.
Methods: The participants were 113 nursing students at the nursing college in Gyeonggi-do. The data were collected through self-report questionnaires from September 7th to November 7th, 2022. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 17.0 program with descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis.
Results: The mean score for clinical competency in nursing students was 3.81 points. Clinical competency had significant correlation with cultural competence(r=.420, p<.001) and professional self-concept(r=.706, p<.001). Factors influencing the clinical competency in nursing students were cultural competence(¥â=.241, p=.001) and professional self-concept(¥â=.639, p<.001). A total of 53.9% of clinical competency was explained by cultural competence and professional self-concept(F=44.574, p<.001).
Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, it is suggested to develop an education program to verify the effectiveness of the curriculum that can improve clinical competency in multicultural nursing clinical field and to establish an attitude toward cultural nursing competency.
